Resist the temptation to party on your first night
Your first night living on campus is the hardest one. You will be signed in by a fellow student who works for on campus accommodation group. This fellow will then show you to your room and introduce you to your flatmates. They will go over some initial rules and make sure you know what is expected of you. This is a big part of studying in Australia, so do not be shy and ask as many questions as you can.
The first thing is first and that is to organise your bedsheets. You will need to find your closest westfield. Kmart and Target offer bedsheets and quilting for your bed. You will need this to be able to sleep. Inside westfield you will also be able to find some hygiene supplies in a supermarket. Our major supermarkets are Woolworths, Coles, Aldi (Aldi is the cheapest) and IGA (IGA is usually the most expensive).
Depending on where you are, you may be relatively close to an Ikea. Ikea have some great deals for students to furnish their rooms. Just remember, your not allowed to purchase furniture which is too bulky. Just focus on trying to get a good deal on some laundry bags.
If you party on your first night, you won’t be prepared to sleep and settle into university. Get your dorm sorted out, so that you have laundry, desk lighting and a place to hang your clothes. Imagine partying on your first night and not having a toothbrush or a bar of soap!
